Question

Can the impact of Private Activities be reduced?

Hi all,

I’m reaching out to look for some guidance and possibly previous experience from people in regards to the usage of Private Activites in PSO

Currently we have some datasets who heavily use Private Activities as it gives planners visibility to what the engineer is doing on their day.

What we are finding however is that they seem to be having a heavy impact on the seeing manual changes reflected in the workbench and has impacted performance of the tool

Could anyone advise on how best to maximise performance and processing within PSO but still maintaining the ability to use Private Activities?

Hi Alex, can I ask how many private activities are being displayed within the scheduling window ? Can I also ask why private activities are being used in place of schedulable activities. Private activities should be used to indicate periods where there engineers are not available for for work rather than the work they are actually performing.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

One of the datasets has over 13,000 private activities within the 90 window we have set up.

The main uses of private activities are to identify Bank Holidays and absences (Holidays, sickness, etc) for the most part so we still have schedulable activities for actual work.

Many thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

In the optimization review I did find that using filters to remove private activities (as well as DoNotSchedule activities) improved the responsiveness of the compare tool but I didn’t look at the impact on manual changes in particular.

I’ll reach out to my colleagues who may have similar experience they can contribute to this question. Is this the GB dataset by the way ?

Thanks,

Tom
